Aquarium of the Bay, an institution of Bay Ecotarium, celebrates its 23rd anniversary tomorrow, commemorating the journey of the Aquarium from a for-profit facility named UnderWater World in 1996 to its merger with The Bay Institute in 2006 that resulted in the formation of bay.org. For almost 23 years, Aquarium of the Bay has served the San Francisco Bay Area community and provided free education programs to over 30,000 school children annually. Visited by millions of guests every year, the Aquarium is home to more than 23,000 animals and more than 90 species. Exhibits include the Aquarium’s iconic and magnificent 300-foot long, 750,000-gallon clear tunnels, which reveal much of the Bay Area’s fascinating marine life.
